Semi Truck Accident Near La Crosse WI Crashes Onto Sparta Football Field

SPARTA, WI – On Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2009 about 4:30 pm, a semi truck crashed into a high school football field after colliding with another car, hitting a power pole and crashing through a chain link fence in Sparta, Wisconsin, about 30 miles from La Crosse, WI.

The semi truck accident happened at the Sparta High School football field on the corner of Rusk Avenue and Franklin Street in Sparta.

According to police, the semi truck was travelling southbound on Rusk Ave. when it crashed nearly head-on into a passenger car in the northbound lane. The big rig jumped a curb, then hit the power pole then crashed through the chain link fence that surrounds the track, then came to a stop on the school’s track.

Police say the driver of the big rig, George Hackler, 59 years old from Knoxville, Tennessee lost control because of a medical condition. The driver of the passenger car, Steven Tessman, 49 years old from West Salem, WI was injured in the accident with the 18 wheeler.

Both Hackler and Tessman were taken to a local hospital. Tessman was treated and released. Hackler received treatment for his medical condition.

New Lisbon WI Semi Truck Accident on I-80 Hits Grocery Store

NEW LISBON, WI – A semi truck ran into a power pole then plowed into the back of a grocery store in Juneau County on a stretch of Interstate 80 in New Lisbon, Wisconsin about 1:28 am early Saturday morning, Oct 31, 2009. The semi truck accident knocked out the power in much of the surrounding area. The only injuries reported was the driver of the big rig, who was taken to a hospital in Mauston, WI for treatment.

The accident occurred about 83 miles north of Madison, WI when the tractor trailer rig veered off the highway and ran into the power pole and smashed into the Barnes Family Foods grocery store in New Lisbon. Other major Wisconsin cities near the truck accident are Eau Claire (about 99 miles), La Crosse (about 64 miles) and Oshkosh (about 94 miles).

According to the sheriff’s department, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The semi truck driver’s name has not yet been released. The truck was owned and operated by Elite Carriers in Wisconsin. No other information on the driver or possible injuries is available at this time, but witnesses say the truck driver did not suffer any serious injuries.

As of 1:30 pm, Saturday, power outages were still being reported by residents in the area. The Barnes Family Foods store will be closed until further notice.
