Loudoun County is located in the northern part of the state and the site of the accident was about 20 miles west of Reston and about 215 miles northwest of Virginia Beach.

The accident happened just after 11:00 a.m. on the northbound Highway 15 about one mile south of Highway 50 in Loudoun County when car suddenly hit the brakes. Another car behind it also applied its brakes and the tanker truck that was following the two cars swerved to the right to avoid hitting them and then went down an embankment and landed upside down after overturning.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident and although there were hazardous materials involved, there was no leakage or spill and no one had to be evacuated from the area.

The accident occurred just north of the county line with Prince William County. Hazmat personnel from both Loudoun County and Prince William County were called in to monitor the situation.

The tanker truck did not rupture in the accident or in the aftermath when it was being righted on the road. While the truck was being uprighted and removed, traffic was diverted from Highway 15.

Northbound traffic was detoured at Highway 234 to the south and southbound traffic was detoured to Highway 50 at the roundabout on Highway 15 just north of the accident site.

Police expected that the road would be closed for two hours until the accident scene was cleared.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Bristol is located in Washington County, Virginia in the southwestern part of the state just 16 miles southwest of Abingdon and about 386 miles west of Portsmouth, 324 miles southwest of Richmond and 149 miles southwest of Roanoke.

The accident occurred on the northbound I-81 around 11:40 a.m. near mile marker 11 at the Halls Bottom Road overpass (County Road 808). The accident site was about half way from Bristol to Abingdon.

The pickup truck driver, Walter Barrett from Saltville, VA, claimed that when the semi truck passed him it pushed a lot of wind which caused his trailer to sway. The trailer struck the side of the semi truck, bounced, then smacked it again before it jackknifed and hit the guard rail.

The accident demolished Barrett’s trailer, which was reported to be about 35 feet long. It was a Fleetwood Pioneer travel trailer. The accident sheared the camper body clean off its frame. Barrett was pulling it with a white GMC pickup. He was traveling back to Saltville from Texas, where he had been working while living in the trailer.

Fortunately no one was seriously hurt in the accident. Barrett was transported a local hospital and was reported to have sustained bruises, but other than that there are no other details of any injuries. The big rig driver pulled his 18-wheeler over to the side of the road, but was unhurt.

Nevertheless, Barrett was cited by State Police for reckless driving and for failing to maintain control of his vehicle. If a vehicle loses control in this situation, then law enforcement sees it as the driver’s responsibility, not the trucker who passed him despite any wind current generated in the process.

Certainly, the length of Barret’s trailer had to play a role in this situation. A 35 foot trailer is like a sail and when a semi truck passes a trailer this big it will punch a hole in the air and cause wind turbulence. The vehicle driver has to keep this in mind.

The accident created a traffic snarl that lasted for hours. The accident site was still being investigated and cleared as of the rush hour at 5:00 p.m.

Police shut down a section of the southbound lanes of State Route 340 as well as the entrance ramp to I-64 while highway crews worked to clear the debris and other material from the interstate

On Saturday morning truck driver Edgar Morales was driving a semi trailer truck south on Interstate 64 in Augusta County, VA. The semi was hauling a full load of building lumber in the trailer of the truck. It is not known where Mr. Morales was headed or the trucking company that owns the tractor trailer.

As Mr. Morales traveled through the area near Waynesboro, VA where the interstate junctures with Virginia State Route 340 he moved into the exit lanes of I-64 and attempted to leave the highway. As he was coming down the exit ramp he saw a stop sign at the end of the ramp and realized that he would be unable to stop his 18 wheeler rig in time to avoid a collision.

The truck driver pulled the semi trailer truck into the southbound lanes of Virginia State Route 340. The sudden change in direction along with the speed of the semi apparently shifted the weight of the load of lumber or in some way threw the trailer truck off- balance. The rig tipped to its side and then the semi trailer truck overturned, landing across the southbound lanes of State Route 340.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

Local emergency personnel form Augusta County and the city of Waynesboro responded to the scene of the rollover truck accident. The truck driver, Mr. Morales, was able to climb out of the cab of his semi trailer and was apparently not injured when the truck flipped over on the highway.

Police shut down a section of the southbound lanes of State Route 340 as well as the entrance ramp to I-64 while highway crews worked to clear the debris and other material from the interstate. A large wrecker was brought to the site of the truck accident so crews could get the disabled semi trailer truck back upright and off the highway’s traffic lanes. The area would be closed for about three hours while the lanes were cleared.

Authorities conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident and also inspected the semi trailer truck for any equipment or mechanical defects. It is possible that the truck driver may have been driving too fast on the exit ramp at the time of the truck accident, however at this time authorities have not released their report.

At this point in the truck investigation, the truck driver, Mr. Morales, has been charged with Driving with Defective Equipment and Failure to Maintain Proper Control of the Vehicle.

Shortly after 12 noon on Thursday an unidentified truck driver from Delaware was driving an extra wide semi trailer truck south on Interstate 495 on the outer loop that goes around Washington, DC. The semi truck was carrying a prefabricated mobile home on its trailer and was reportedly traveling in the right lanes.

The truck accident was set off when another vehicle suddenly moved into the traffic lane occupied by the oversized truck. The driver of the semi trailer veered to the right to avoid colliding with the vehicle but hit a Ford F-450. The impact caused the truck driver to lose control of the trailer truck. The semi jack-knifed and the tractor section of the truck overturned on the interstate. When the trailer rolled over a portion of the mobile home fell off the truck.

Emergency personnel responded to the truck accident and treated the truck driver before transporting him to Fairfax Inova Hospital. His injuries were reported as not life threatening. The driver of the Ford F-450 was not injured in the collision.

Virginia State Police troopers were at the site and shut down several southbound lanes of the interstate near the truck accident scene, backing up traffic for miles. State Police troopers and investigators with the Virginia Department of Transportation conducted a reconstruction of the incident.

Highway crews were called to the scene to clean up the considerable amount of debris on the interstate. The trailer of the truck lost some of its wheels in the truck accident and was completely destroyed making it impossible to tow it from the scene. According to officials with VDOT construction equipment would be brought to the scene and the wreckage of the trailer would be taken apart and put in dumpsters to be carried away.

Three of the southbound lanes of I-495 reopened at about 1:35 p.m. Thursday and they expected all southbound lanes to be opened by 6:00 p.m.

At this time no charges have been made but are expected once authorities complete their investigation of the truck accident. It is not known if VSP officers have located the driver who set off the truck accident.

At around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning Wilbert Reynolds of Baltimore, Maryland was driving a semi trailer truck north on Interstate 64 in Virginia. As the driver traveled through Newport News where the interstate passes over J. Clyde Morris Blvd. he apparently fell asleep and lost control of the 18 wheeler truck.

The semi trailer went off the interstate and crashed into the guardrail at the side of the road. The trailer truck then rolled over on its side and landed in a ditch. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the rollover truck accident.

Local emergency personnel and law enforcement officers responded to the scene of the truck accident. The driver, Mr. Reynolds, was apparently not injured in the one vehicle collision and did not require transport to a hospital. Police immediately shut down at least one of the northbound traffic lanes on the interstate.

The police officers talked to Mr. Reynolds and after hearing his version of the incidents leading up to the truck accident charged him with reckless driving. It is not known if the driver was required to submit to a field sobriety test or toxicology screening.

A second semi trailer was brought to the scene of the truck accident so that crews could offload the cargo from the disabled rig. When the trailer of the overturned truck was empty workers got it back on its wheels and towed it off the interstate.

The truck accident caused significant delays on the interstate, tying up traffic for miles during Tuesday morning’s commuter rush hours. The accident affected the northbound lanes of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel which feeds onto I-64, backing up traffic for five miles to College Drive. Eastbound traffic was also backed up on the Midtown Tunnel with delays reaching back one mile to the Western Freeway/Route 164.

The interstate lanes were reopened at around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday and traffic began to flow more freely.

At this time it is not known if the additional charges will be brought against the truck driver. The truck accident is still under investigation.

Highway crews were brought in to clear the wreckage of the multi truck accident.

At around 3:40 a.m. Monday morning 59 year old Marion F. Dale of Dunn, North Carolina was driving north on Interstate 81 hauling thirty head of cattle from Knoxville, VA to Godwin, NC. As Mr. Dale drove in the vicinity of mile marker 58 he encountered three deer in the roadway and attempted to maneuver around the animals.

The truck driver went off the interstate lanes and onto the center median. When he tried to pull the semi back onto the interstate he apparently lost control and flipped the truck over on its side, blocking lanes of traffic.

A moment later a second semi trailer truck, driven by 38 year old James Collum of Arkansas, came upon the overturned truck and was unable to stop to avoid a collision and plowed into the disabled cattle truck.

A third semi trailer truck next approached the scene of the truck accident. The truck driver, 43 year old Randall T. Hawkins of Tennessee, saw the pile-up and slowed his rig but lost control as he was attempting to steer around the two crashed semi trucks. He overturned his 18 wheeler, coming to a rest besides the first two trucks.

Police and local emergency personnel responded to the scene of the three truck accident. The driver from Arkansas, Mr. Collum, suffered fatal injuries when he hit the overturned cattle truck and he died at the scene according to police.

Mr. Dale, who was driving the cattle truck that first overturned, sustained non life threatening injuries and was stabilized and taken by ambulance to Wythe Community Hospital in nearby Wytheville.

A passenger in the cattle truck, David H. Jones of Wade, NC, suffered more serious injuries. He was first transported to Wythe Community Hospital and then airlifted by medical hospital to Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, VA, about 60 miles away. Police reported that Mr. Jones injuries were considered life threatening.

The driver of the third semi truck, Mr. Hawkins, had minor injuries after the truck accident and was treated at the scene by EMTs and released.

Highway crews were brought in to clear the wreckage of the multi truck accident and other workers helped corral the cattle.

According to police, half of the cattle in the transport trailer died in the truck accident. The surviving cows and bulls were taken to the Wytheville Livestock Market where they will be held until the owners can arrange to pick them up.

Traffic slowed as a section of Interstate 81 was closed in the area around the truck accident scene and automated warning signs alerted northbound traffic to take the detour at Exit 54. The diverted vehicles were sent to Highway 11 and allowed back onto the northbound lanes of I-81 at the Rural Retreat interchange.

At this point Mr. Dale, the driver of the cattle truck, has been cited for “Reckless Driving”.

Other charges may follow pending the conclusion of the truck accident investigation which is still open.

Miley Cyrus

Dinwiddle, VA – One of Miley Cyrus tour buses carrying the singer’s band and crew, overturned on Interstate 85 early Friday morning at 10:23 A.M. in the Virginia accident. Miley Cyrus was on another bus and was not hurt.

The bus was one of four coaches transporting Cyrus’ tour crew to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she is due to perform on Sunday. The singer was not travelling with her crew – instead, she had boarded a flight to her native Nashville, as The Los Angeles Times reports.

Bill Douglas 53, the driver of the rolled over bus, died when the bus flipped over, injuring nine of 14 production crewmembers on board.

Cyrus has paid tribute on her website to the bus driver who lost his life in this tragic accident.

Miley expressed her grief at the death of “Uncle Bill”, who she considered part of her “family”.

In a statement posted on Cyrus’ website, she says, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill ‘Uncle Bill’ Douglas.

“Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed.”

Police told TMZ there were no obvious signs that alcohol played a factor in the crash, and believe Douglas may have had health-related issues. The matter is still under investigation.
