Fatal Houston TX Semi Truck Accident on I-10 – Video

HOUSTON, TX – A female driver of a cargo truck was killed in a semi truck accident on the westbound Interstate-10 at the Jenson Dr overpass at about 3:30 am, early Friday morning, November 20, 2009 in Houston, Texas.

The accident happened when the 18 wheeler jackknifed and ran into the overpass smashing the cab and killing the driver. A UPS truck driver who witnessed the accident said that the cargo truck passed him and was going about 60 or 65 mph going into the overpass. The driver lost control as the road makes a gentle left turn and then it went into a full jackknife.

The semi truck driver died on impact when the big rig hit a guardrail and then crashed into support column of the Jensen Drive bridge.

It is believed that the wet roadway from the rain played a part in causing the driver of the 18 wheeler to lose control of the vehicle.

The truck was hauling a load of salsa and chips.

The westbound lanes of the East Freeway were completely closed for several hours at U.S. Highway 59 while cleanup crews worked to clear the debris.

There was some concern about some overhead gas pipelines that run above the support columns on the bridge. Texas Department of Transportation (TEXDOT) had to make sure it was safe before allowing traffic to go through.

The semi truck driver was not wearing a seat belt and police investigators do not believe there was alcohol involved.
