The multi truck accident left the Dodge pickup sandwiched between the 18 wheeler and the delivery truck, the right passenger side of the pickup completely caved in by the impact.

The truck accident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the intersection of the Kansas Expressway/Route 13 and Division Street. A 2002 Dodge pickup truck driven by 42 year old Edwin Kropf was heading east on division St., his 42 year old twin brother Edward was the passenger in the pickup. The brothers were Amish-Mennonite farmers from the Everton, MO area. 

As Mr. Kropf reached the intersection of the Kansas Expressway/Route 13, he apparently ignored his red-light signal and entered the intersection directly in the path of northbound traffic.

A 2007 Volvo tractor trailer truck traveling north on Kansas Expressway/Route 13 slammed into the passenger side of the Dodge pickup. The force of the truck accident then pushed the pickup truck into another tractor trailer which was carrying a load of windows.

According to a witness of the truck accident, the driver of the Volvo tractor trailer truck, 36 year old Christopher M. Doyle of Orlando, Florida, attempted to avoid hitting the pickup truck but there was not enough space or time to stop or maneuver out of the way. The semi truck also clipped a westbound vehicle sitting at a red-light at the intersection.

Springfield emergency personnel responded to the truck accident scene and worked to get the Kropf brothers out of the wrecked Dodge pickup. The passenger, Edward Kropf suffered fatal injuries and died upon impact.

His brother, driver Edwin Kropf was treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. His injuries were serious but he reportedly was awake and speaking with family Friday evening.

The driver of the Volvo tractor trailer, Christopher Dodd, was not injured in the truck accident. There was damage to his truck, which is owned by Windy Hill Foliage, of Marshfield, Wisconsin. The driver of the window delivery truck and the clipped vehicle were also not injured in the multi truck collision.

The multi truck accident took out several traffic lights at the intersection of Division and Kansas Expressway, and sent debris flying into the air. The collision also damaged the gas tanks on the trucks and diesel fuel was spilled onto Division St.

Springfield officials closed down the area around the truck accident, bringing local traffic to a standstill. The southbound lanes of the Kansas expressway were reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

The remaining lanes would open back up later Friday, once crews had finished cleaning up the spill diesel fuel and removing the truck accident wreckage from the scene.

No charges have been made at this time. The truck accident remains under investigation.

The semi-trailer, which was carrying milk, careened down a 40-foot embankment after a crash on on Interstate 29 near Dearborn, Mo. The driver was reportedly not injured.

The truck accident happened at about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, as 40 year old John D. Romines of Sabetha, Kansas was driving his 2007 Kenworth tanker truck southbound on Interstate 29. As he neared the area by mile marker 31.6 Mr. Romines drove onto the shoulder of the interstate, ramming into a parked 2004 Peterbilt semi truck…

Some reports indicated that there was debris in the interstate which may have caused Mr. Romines to go onto the shoulder and hit the parked truck.

After hitting the parked 18 wheeler, Mr. Romines drove along the side of the Peterbilt truck and then ran off the highway. Romines tanker truck then went through a guardrail and plunged down the embankment. The tanker truck overturned when it reached the bottom, ejecting Mr. Romines from the truck. Authorities confirmed that Mr. Romines was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

The tanker truck, which had been carrying milk, came to a stop in a creek bed, about 50 feet from the highway.

Emergency personnel arrived at the truck accident scene. They treated and stabilized Mr. Romines and then transported him to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO, about 21 miles away. His injuries are moderate and not considered life threatening.

The driver of the parked Peterbilt truck, 64 year old Lawrence J. Haberman of Lesterville, South Dakota was not injured in the truck accident. Mr. Haberman said he felt a jolt, but didn’t realize the extent of the accident until another truck driver stopped to check on his condition.

When the parked Peterbilt was hit by the milk tanker truck it spilled its load of soda all over the interstate.

Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the truck accident scene and closed down all lanes of the interstate in the truck accident area. There were reportedly one or two accidents in the area after the truck collision, but no serious injuries reported at this time.

Crews were brought in to clear the soda and other debris from the highway. A heavy duty tow truck was also going to be brought in to lift the milk tanker truck up the embankment and off the interstate.

Troopers first opened one lane of traffic in each direction, and finally opened all lanes once the debris and wreckage was cleared out.

No charges or citation have been made at this time. The truck accident remains under investigation.

Missouri train and truck accident ends in tragedy. One Dies; children injured.

Missouri State Highway Patrol says Kristy Willis, 33, was driving 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck with three passengers inside.

Kelsey Turner, 8, sat in the front seat. Two other kids, Tiffany Bowden, 15, and her brother Carl, 16, sat in the truck’s bed.

The Highway Patrol says the car and train collided when the pick-up tried to cross the railroad tracks along Highway 60.

Tim Bowden, the father of the two kids who were in the pick-up bed, says Tiffany saw Willis reach across the front seat to help Turner, perhaps with her seat belt.

Bowden says Tiffany and Carl saw the train coming and jumped out of the pick-up bed just in time. They’re doing okay.

But Highway Patrol says, 8 year old Kelsey who was in the front seat, suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Troopers also said that Willis, who was driving, died in the crash. Accident reports show neither Willis nor Turner were wearing seat belts.

Bowden says he’s very shaken by what happened.

“It’s a tragedy,” he says. “From what my daughter told me, they pulled up on the tracks and nobody had even seen the train. The train didn’t even blow a whistle, didn’t blow a horn or nothing.”

Bowden says his kids had just gotten off the school bus, and Willis, their neighbor, was giving them a ride home from the bus stop.

Reports show that the train driver Edward Cleeton, 50, was not injured and was driven from the scene.

Billows of smoke caused by the acid arose from the trailer, creating a chemical cloud. Hazmat crews were called to the scene and are currently working on containing the spill and cleaning up the area.

The Isle of Capri casino which is nearby did not evacuated, but those inside were asked to take shelter.

Kansas City Fire Department spokesman Joe Vitale said that fire crews have plugged one of two holes in the tank holding the acid. Vitale said a cleanup crew will be called to finish the cleanup.

The driver of the truck was pulled from the cab and transported to an area hospital, but was alert and responsive.

Vitale said they spoke to the driver by phone as he was transported to the hospital to determine how much he was carrying and other information about his load.

Kansas City Police and the Missouri Highway Patrol were unsure of how soon the bridge would be reopened.

Lincoln County, MO — An accident involving a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon in Lincoln County left the driver of the truck with moderate injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 5 p.m. on Route V, west of Windy Hill Road. A 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 42-year-old Wayne Leroy of Atmore, Ala., was westbound on Route V when it traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.

Leroy, who was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital West by Lincoln County Ambulance.

One of the two people involved n the accident was Branson resident Rita Gravatt, 60, who suffered serious injuries. It is reported that she was wearing a seat belt. She was airlifted to Cox South hospital in Springfield.

The other person was a passenger in the truck, Kirbyville resident Kevin Barker, 28, who suffered minor injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson.

The truck was driven by Kirbyville resident Daryl Sims, 19. Sims was not injured.

Gravatt was going eastbound in a Cadillac when she crossed the center line and strucking Sims’ Ford F-250 head-on, the report said.
