WEEDSPORT, NY- A driver was injured when his semi trailer truck rolled over early Tuesday morning, August 24, on a highway in Cayuga County, New York. The truck accident occurred on the New York Thruway just west of the exit for Weedsport, NY. The accident area is in the north central section of the state near the city of Syracuse, about 126 miles west of Buffalo, NY and about 79 miles north of Elmira, NY.

Hazmat teams from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation reported to the site of the truck accident to clean up the fuel spill.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning 40 year old Michael E. Sullivan of Felicity, Ohio was driving a semi trailer truck east on the New York Thruway in Cayuga County, NY. The trailer of the truck was loaded with a cargo of cardboard boxes. The New York Thruway is also known as I-90.

As the semi traveled the interstate approaching the city of Weedsport it was cut off by a car that suddenly moved into the trailer truck’s lane. The truck driver attempted to slow and swerve to avoid colliding with the smaller vehicle.

The maneuver may have caused the trailer truck’s brakes to lock up, throwing the rig out of control. The semi left the highway and went onto the right-hand shoulder of the road. The 18 wheeler truck then slammed into a guardrail alongside the thruway and flipped over on its side. The trailer section of the semi truck landed across lanes of traffic.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

Local emergency medical personnel and rescue teams responded to the site of the truck accident. The truck driver was extricated from the cab of the semi and stabilized at the scene. He was then transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Mr. Sullivan suffered injuries to his neck, back and hip. His condition is unknown but his injuries are considered non life threatening.

The trailer of the truck was able to hold onto its cargo during the rollover however the impact of the truck accident apparently punctured at least one of the gas tanks and diesel fuel began to spill out on the highway. Officials reported that about 100 gallons of fuel leaked onto the road surface. Hazmat teams from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation reported to the site of the truck accident to clean up the fuel spill.

Highway crews and a heavy duty wrecker were brought to the site of the truck accident to get the semi trailer back up on its wheels. The work would take several hours and caused delays during the morning commuter rush.

State Police shut down a section of the eastbound lanes of New York Thruway/I-90 around the truck accident and diverted traffic around the disabled semi. Officers used the off and on ramps to Weedsport to reroute drivers around the site. The westbound lanes of the thruway were not affected by the crash. The lanes were cleared and traffic was flowing again by 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

NY State Police conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident to determine the cause of the crash. The state’s commercial trucking commission will likely conduct their own investigation and inspection of the semi trailer truck and its braking system.

No charges have been brought at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

ARNOLD, MD – A truck accident on Friday afternoon, August 20, brought commuter traffic to a standstill on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. One person was injured in the rear-end collision which occurred on the bridge that crosses over the Chesapeake Bay near the city of Arnold, MD. The accident area is in the central section of the state about 62 miles west of Dover, Delaware and about 36 miles east of Washington, DC.

Local emergency personnel from Anne Arundel County Fire Department arrived at the scene of the truck accident and worked to extricate the driver of the Corvette using the Jaws of Life.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon a semi trailer truck was traveling west on the Bay Bridge in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. A red Corvette driven by a 24 year old man was directly in front of the 18 wheeler truck. The trailer truck and car were both traveling in the right lane of the bridge.

As the two vehicles crossed the span over the Chesapeake Bay, the red Corvette slowed down in the afternoon commuter traffic. The semi trailer truck was unable to slow or maneuver to avoid a collision and slammed into the back of the smaller vehicle.

The force of the truck accident crushed the red Corvette and trapped the driver inside. According to some witnesses the Corvette was pushed to the edge of the bridge by the impact. Steel beams built in the westbound section of the span may have stopped the Corvette and prevented it from plunging off the bridge into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Local emergency personnel from Anne Arundel County Fire Department arrived at the scene of the truck accident and worked to extricate the driver of the Corvette using the Jaws of Life and other tools. Once freed the driver was stabilized at the scene and then transported by Maryland State Police medical helicopter to Shock Trauma Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. His injuries were described as serious but were not considered life threatening.

The truck driver did not suffer injuries in the collision and the trailer truck was not seriously damaged or disabled in the rear-end truck accident.

MD State Police shut down the westbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge while emergency personnel provided aid to the victim and the medical helicopter picked up the man and flew him to the hospital.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – One person was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on truck accident Wednesday morning, August 18, on a highway in Salt Lake County, Utah. The deadly collision on Interstate 215 caused the semi trailer to burst into flames and filled the air with smoke which could be seen for miles around Salt Lake City. The truck accident area is in the north-central section of the state about 45 miles north of Provo, UT and about 110 miles south of Preston, Idaho.

The force of the truck accident punctured one of the semi fuel tanks and it burst into flames.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning 51 year old truck driver Kulwinder Singh of Livermore, California was driving a semi trailer truck west on Interstate 215 in Salt Lake County, UT. The trailer was reportedly filled with a load of ham.

At the same time 71 year old Donald Swenson of Sandy, UT was driving a Toyota Camry east on the interstate. According to a witness Mr. Swenson had entered eastbound I-215 at Union Park. A moment after entering the interstate Mr. Swenson suddenly did a U-Turn and was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes, directly in the path of oncoming traffic.

At about 9:45 a.m. near 2300 East, the truck driver saw the wrong-way Toyota headed for his 18 wheeler. Mr. Singh was unable to swerve out of the way and the trailer truck slammed full force into the Toyota Camry. After hitting the car the semi trailer truck jackknifed and flipped over on its side. The Toyota came to a rest a few hundred feet from the 18 wheeler.

The force of the head-on truck accident punctured one of the semi trailer’s fuel tanks and it burst into flames. Fed by the gas, the fire spread fast, engulfing the 18 wheeler truck and reaching the crushed Toyota Camry. Fiery black smoke filled the air and could be seen for several miles in the surrounding valley. Witnesses reported hearing several load explosions right after the truck accident.

Salt Lake City firefighters and emergency personnel rushed to the scene of the truck accident. Fire teams battled the flaming wreckage of the semi trailer and Toyota while EMTs worked to save the victims. The driver of the Toyota, Mr. Swenson, suffered fatal injuries in the head-on collision and officials believed he died on impact.

Mr. Singh, the driver of the semi, sustained multiple injuries in the truck accident. Several drivers on the interstate stopped and helped extricate the truck driver from the cab of his rig. He was treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported to Intermountain Medical Center. He was reported to be in critical condition with a punctured lung and lacerations to his head.

Utah Highway Patrol cordoned off an area around the truck accident scene while firefighters tried to extinguish the flames which had spread into the brush in the area alongside the interstate. For a time the fire posed a potential threat to nearby homes however the truck fire was extinguished before reaching any of the houses.

The area of the interstate was closed for several hours while highway crews cleared the collision site. The semi was destroyed in the truck accident and subsequent fire and would have to be towed from the scene. All but one westbound lane were reopened by Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities reconstructing the truck accident believe it was caused by the Toyota traveling east in the westbound lanes. They have not determined why the man was driving the wrong way. At least one witness called 911 and reported that after the Toyota driver entered the westbound lanes he was driving erratically on the interstate, at times traveling at 80 mph and then suddenly down to 10 mph. He was also reportedly driving in the median before entering the pathway of the semi truck.

No charges have been brought and the truck accident remains under investigation.

COLOMA, MI – One person was killed Monday afternoon, August 16, in a semi trailer truck accident on an interstate in Berrien County, Michigan. The deadly rear-end collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near the exit for the city of Coloma. The truck accident area is in the far southwest corner of the state near Lake Michigan, about 43 miles west of Kalamazoo, MI and about 46 miles north of South Bend, Indiana.

Firefighters prepare to remove the victim of a fatal crash on eastbound Interstate 94 near Coloma on Monday afternoon. Police said it appears that the semi truck ran into the rear of the car. Traffic had backed up due to a multi-vehicle crash that had taken place a few minutes earlier in the eastbound lanes near the Coloma exit, about two miles to the east. William F. Ast III / H-P staff

On Monday afternoon an unidentified truck driver was driving a semi trailer truck in the right eastbound lane of Interstate 94 through Berrien County, MI. The trailer truck was behind a car as it moved through the area near the city of Coloma. In addition to the driver there were three passengers in the car including the brother of the driver 68 year old Fred Reinhardt, Jr of Bangor, MI.

At around 4:00 p.m. Monday afternoon eastbound traffic on the interstate began to slow down due to a crash that had occurred a few moments earlier near the exit for Friday Road. As the truck moved near the exit to Park Road the car directly in front of the semi truck began to slow with traffic.

Not long after the fatal accident happened, eastbound traffic on I-94 was diverted onto I-196, then east on Red Arrow Highway to Watervliet and back to I-94. Traffic on I-94 at one point was backed up from the I-196 exit almost to Napier Avenue in Benton Township, about three miles. The eastbound lanes were reopened around 9:15 p.m., according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Mark Parren photo

The 18 wheeler truck was apparently too close to the car or going too fast to avoid a collision. The semi trailer truck slammed into the back of the car, crushing in the back section of the smaller vehicle. The force of the truck accident caused both vehicles to flip over onto their sides. The semi truck and the car both became enmeshed in the highway cable barriers running along the side of the interstate median.

According to authorities the barriers probably prevented more vehicles being hit in the deadly crash by keeping the trailer truck from crossing into other lanes of traffic.

Michigan State Police Troopers on their way to the first collision came upon the scene of the truck accident and stopped to help. Firefighters from a nearby department rushed to the site of the overturned truck and car where they found Fred Reinhardt Jr. trapped in the back seat of the car hit by the semi. The rescue team worked to extricate the victim from the back seat.

Unfortunately Mr. Reinhardt suffered fatal injuries in the truck accident and died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were also hurt in the rear end truck collision however it is not known if they were transported to a hospital. Their conditions and extent of injuries was not released to the public.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries in the truck accident.

MSP shut down a section of I-94 around the site of the deadly truck accident. Vehicles were rerouted to Interstate 196 then directed to Red Arrow Highway on to Watervliet and then back onto I-94.

Highway crews and tow trucks were brought to the truck accident site to clear the wreckage of the fatal collision off the interstate. The work was slow moving and an hour after the crash the semi trailer truck was still on its side while the car was back upright. The cleanup lasted well into the evening and the eastbound lanes of I-94 finally reopened shortly after 9:00 p.m. Monday night.

Investigators with MSP and the Michigan Department of Transportation conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident. At this time they have not released their findings to the public.

At this point they have not brought any charges in the deadly collision and the truck accident remains under investigation.

UNITY, WI – A milk tanker truck crashed on a highway bridge and then burst into flames Thursday morning, Aug 12, in Marathon/Clark County, Wisconsin. The single truck accident happened on State Highway 13 in the town of Unity, WI and may have occurred after the driver fell asleep. The truck accident area is in the central section of the state between the cities of Wausau and Eau Claire, about 132 miles west of Green Bay, WI and about 148 miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota.

The semi tanker truck crashed into a guardrail and highway bridge flipping over on its side.

At around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning 28 year old Aaron Ruggles of Owen, WI was driving a semi tanker truck south on State Highway 13 in Marathon/Clark County, WI. The tank on the truck was filled with gallons of milk.

As the milk tanker truck traveled the highway near the town of Unity the truck driver suddenly lost control of his rig south of the juncture with Salter Road. The semi tanker truck crashed into a guardrail and highway bridge and then flipped over on its side. The impact broke open a section of the cargo tank as well as one of the fuel tanks. The truck burst into flames as milk and diesel fuel spilled out onto the highway.

According to an officer with the State Patrol the preliminary findings point to the truck driver falling asleep while driving. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash and rollover.

The driver, Mr. Ruggles, was momentarily trapped in the cab of the tanker after the truck accident. He was able to crawl out of the burning cab and escaped serious injuries. Emergency personnel responding to the truck accident scene treated the truck driver’s head injuries and then transported him to Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. According to authorities the truck driver was not wearing his seatbelt.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

The Fire and Rescue team from Colby/Abbotsford responded to the truck accident site and battled the flames which engulfed the cab of the tanker. Once the truck fire was extinguished they spread an absorbent product on top of the remaining spilled diesel fuel. Mulch was brought to the area and spread on the fuel in order to keep it from getting into nearby Little Eau Pleine Creek.

A second milk tanker was brought to the scene of the truck accident and the milk in the disabled truck was transferred into the new tanker. Once empty the wrecked tanker truck was towed off the highway.

A section of Highway 13 was closed down after the truck accident while the various crews worked. The lanes would stay closed for almost seven hours reopening at around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

Several departments were at the scene to investigate and reconstruct the truck accident including Wisconsin State Patrol and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. According to an officer with the State Patrol the preliminary findings point to the truck driver falling asleep while driving. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash and rollover.

No charges have been made at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

WHITEWATER, KS – A semi trailer truck driver died Tuesday, August 10, after he collided with a train at an intersection of the railroad tracks and a Kansas highway. The deadly truck accident occurred on Kansas Highway 196 in the city of Whitewater near the border between Harvey and Butler counties. The accident area is northwest of the Wichita metro region in the south section of the state, about 192 miles southwest of Kansas City, Missouri and about 150 miles north of Enid, Oklahoma.

The scene was cleared by Tues. evening and the highway lanes and tracks reopened for travel.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon 80 year old truck driver Herbert Entz of Whitewater, Kansas was driving a semi trailer truck east on Kansas Highway 196 near the border between Harvey and Butler counties. The trailer of the semi truck was loaded with a cargo of corn.

At the same time a Union Pacific freight train was headed south on the railroad tracks traveling through the region. The train cars were carrying a variety of freight however there were no hazardous materials on board the train.

When the truck driver reached the juncture of Kansas 196 and railroad tracks the Union Pacific train was also approaching the intersection. According to several witnesses the crossing gates were down at the juncture, blocking the path of the highway, and the warning lights were flashing.

When the driver of the semi truck, Mr. Entz, reached the crossing gates he apparently decided to attempt to cross the tracks ahead of the train. According to the Harvey County Sheriff several witnesses claim they saw the driver take the semi trailer truck around the crossing gates and onto the tracks, directly into the path of the Union Pacific train.

The conductor of the train said that he saw the trailer truck on the railroad tracks and applied the brakes in an attempt to avoid a collision. However there just was not enough time or space and the Union Pacific train slammed into the front cab section of the semi trailer.

The impact of the truck accident inflicted fatal injuries to the truck driver and it is believed he died on impact. No one on the Union Pacific train was injured in the collision.

The train pushed the semi a short distance after the truck accident but was able to remain on the tracks and no cars derailed.

The truck accident severely damaged the semi truck and the load of corn spilled out on the highway and railroad tracks. An undisclosed amount of diesel fuel also spilled from the destroyed trailer truck.

Harvey County Sheriff Department officers shut down a section of Kansas 196 around the truck accident site while authorities conducted a reconstruction. Highway crews worked to remove the cargo of corn from the road and clean up the spilled diesel fuel. Others worked to remove the crushed wreckage of the semi truck off the rail tracks.

Kansas Highway 196 was closed for the rest of the afternoon and the truck accident also shut down the railroad tracks. It is not known how many other trains were affected by the closed tracks. The truck accident scene was cleared by Tuesday evening and the highway lanes and tracks reopened for travel.

While initial findings point to the truck driver being at fault no charges have been made at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

HIGHLAND, IL – A fiery truck accident killed the driver of a semi and his passenger Monday morning, August 9, on an interstate in Madison County, Illinois. The deadly collision, which occurred near the city of Highland in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, happened as traffic slowed for an earlier trailer truck accident. The accident area is in the southwest section of the state about 35 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri and about 93 miles northwest of Carbondale, IL.

The impact of the truck accident apparently damaged one or more fuel tanks on the semi which set off the collision and the Freightliner burst into flames.

Shortly before 7:00 a.m. Monday morning 30 year old Jason C. Scott of Grove City, IL was driving a Kenworth semi trailer truck west on Interstate 70 through Madison County, IL. About 10 minutes earlier a semi had crashed into an overpass in the same area and became disconnected from its trailer. The trailer broke open and spilled its load of food products out onto the highway. The incident occurred at mile marker 27.

As the vehicles waited in traffic on the interstate a 2000 Freightliner semi trailer truck came up in the right lane moving at a faster rate of speed. The Freightliner truck pulled a trailer with the Butternut Bread logo and was driven by 52 year old Jerald D. Jaynes of Seymour, Indiana. A passenger, identified as 23 year old William Burleson of Greensburg, IN, rode in the cab.

According to officials Mr. Jaynes was unable to slow his 18 wheeler rig and slammed into the rear of the stopped Kenworth trailer truck driven by Mr. Fellure. The truck accident set off a chain reaction as the Kenworth rear-ended the Ford Ranger which in turn hit the back of the Kenworth semi truck driven by Mr. Scott.

The impact of the truck accident apparently damaged one or more fuel tanks on the semi which set off the collision and the Freightliner burst into flames. The driver and his passenger were trapped in the cab of the semi trailer and were unable to escape the fire.

Firefighters and emergency workers rushed to the scene of the fiery truck accident and battled the flames on the Freightliner. Unfortunately they were unable to reach the victims in time and Mr. Jaynes and Mr. Burleson died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, Mr. Neer, and the driver of the second Kenworth, Mr. Fellure, suffered minor injuries in the multi truck accident. They were treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

The driver of the first Kenworth semi trailer truck, Mr. Scott, was not injured in the truck accident.

The deadly collision closed down several westbound lanes of I-70 between Illinois 143 and US Highway 43 while highway crews cleared the roadway and tow wreckers removed the disabled vehicles. The lanes would remain closed for more than nine hours and traffic was diverted around the site of the truck accident.

Illinois State Police and other investigators conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident. They have not brought any charges at this time and the incident remains under investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – A tanker truck flipped over early Wednesday morning, Aug 4, on an interstate overpass in Linn County, Iowa. The single vehicle truck accident happened when the liquid chemicals in the tanker shifted as the semi tanker moved through Cedar Rapids on Interstate 380 near Wright Brothers Blvd. The accident area is in the central east section of the state about 168 miles south of Rochester, Minnesota and about 174 miles north of Hannibal, Missouri.

At around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning 39 year old Joe Short of Colona, Illinois was driving a semi tanker truck north on Interstate 380 through Linn County, IA. The tank on the semi truck was loaded with about 50,000 pounds of sodium hydroxide, a liquid chemical that is also known as lye or caustic soda. Sodium hydroxide is potentially harmful and can irritate or damage a person’s eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.

At about 5:40 a.m. Wednesday the truck driver reached the juncture of Wright Brothers Boulevard SW and Interstate 380. He exited the interstate and was attempting to turn left onto Wrights Brothers Blvd when the truck accident occurred.

As the tanker was making the turn the movement of the 18 wheeler caused the liquid chemical in the tanker to shift, throwing the semi truck off balance. The truck driver was unable to keep the tanker truck upright and it flipped over on its side on the east shoulder of the I-380 and Wright Brothers Blvd. SW interchange.

The impact of the truck accident apparently damaged the valve and a ventilation line on the tanker and sodium hydroxide began to slowly spill out of the truck.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the rollover truck accident.

Iowa State Police and Cedar Rapids emergency personnel responded to the truck accident and gave medical assistance to the truck driver. Mr. Short had unspecified pains and was stabilized and transported to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids with non life threatening injuries.

Due to the potential danger of the leaking chemical authorities shut down a section of Wright Brothers Blvd. around the overturned tanker as well as the northbound off ramp to I-380 and the nearby overpasses at Kirkwood Blvd. SW and Sixth Street.

Haz-mat workers were at the scene and were the only people allowed within 150 feet of the disabled tanker truck. A hole was cut into the flipped tanker truck and another tanker truck was brought to the truck accident site. According to authorities the haz-mat team would pump the sodium hydroxide into the second tanker and once empty the wrecked truck could be removed from the scene.

The affected areas around the truck accident scene remained closed throughout the morning commute and into the afternoon. Traffic was still being diverted at around 2:00 p.m. and authorities hoped to have the lanes open in time for the evening rush hour.

Officials investigating the truck accident determined that the truck driver, Mr. Short, was at fault for the rollover. He was charged with Failure to Retain Control.

INCLINE VILLAGE, NV – A driver was charged after he crashed and flipped his semi trailer truck Monday morning, July 26, on a winding highway in Washoe County, Nevada. The truck accident occurred on the Mount Rose Highway, also known as Nevada State 431, near the town of Incline Village between Reno and Carson City, NV. The accident area is in the far west section of the state on the border with California, about 88 miles southwest of Fallon, NV and about 120 miles east of Sacramento, CA.

The semi truck was unable to completely negotiate the turn and crashed into the guardrail.

At about 11:00 a.m. Monday morning Russell Stokes was driving a tractor trailer truck on the Mount Rose Highway. Mr. Stokes had just left the site of a home demolition in Incline Village and his trailer was loaded with lumber, building materials and other debris that he was hauling to the Lockwood dump. The truck driver was working for F.W. Carson Company based in Incline Village.

The semi trailer truck had just passed the Tannenbaum Event Center when the driver lost control of the rig as he was taking a bend on the highway. The semi truck was unable to completely negotiate the turn and crashed into the guardrail running alongside the highway. The tractor trailer crushed a section of the metal railing before it tipped over landing on its passenger side. When the semi truck overturned it lost a great deal of its load of construction materials and building debris which spilled across the roadway.

The force of the truck accident apparently damaged one of the semi’s fuel tanks and about 40 gallons of diesel fuel leaked out onto the highway surface.

The driver, Mr. Stokes, was able to get out of the cab and apparently was not injured in the rollover truck accident.

Sierra Fire emergency personnel and crews from the Nevada Department of Transportation rushed to the scene of the single truck accident and worked to contain the spilled diesel fuel and keep it from spreading off the highway. They were able to successfully keep the fuel from getting into the nearby ground and water systems.

Other highway crews worked to remove the debris from the spilled load off the highway. Nevada Highway Patrol shut down the Mount Rose Highway for several hours around the site of the truck accident while the highway was cleared.

Nevada Towing bought in several heavy-duty tow trucks that were used to upright the overturned tractor trailer and get it off the highway. The highway would be shut down for most of the day and drivers were rerouted through Carson City and Truckee. NHP opened one lane to traffic at around 5:15 p.m. and all lanes were open at about 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Investigators reconstructing the truck accident believe that speed was a factor and the truck driver was likely going too fast when he tried to take the turn on the highway.

The truck driver, Mr. Stokes, was charged with driving too fast for conditions.

WAYNESBORO, VA – A semi trailer truck overturned Saturday, July 24, on a highway in Augusta County, Virginia. The truck accident occurred just north of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the juncture of Interstate 64 and Virginia State Route 340 near the city of Waynesboro. The accident area is in the central west section of the state about 62 miles north of Lynchburg, VA and about 140 miles southwest of Washington, DC.

Police shut down a section of the southbound lanes of State Route 340 as well as the entrance ramp to I-64 while highway crews worked to clear the debris and other material from the interstate

On Saturday morning truck driver Edgar Morales was driving a semi trailer truck south on Interstate 64 in Augusta County, VA. The semi was hauling a full load of building lumber in the trailer of the truck. It is not known where Mr. Morales was headed or the trucking company that owns the tractor trailer.

As Mr. Morales traveled through the area near Waynesboro, VA where the interstate junctures with Virginia State Route 340 he moved into the exit lanes of I-64 and attempted to leave the highway. As he was coming down the exit ramp he saw a stop sign at the end of the ramp and realized that he would be unable to stop his 18 wheeler rig in time to avoid a collision.

The truck driver pulled the semi trailer truck into the southbound lanes of Virginia State Route 340. The sudden change in direction along with the speed of the semi apparently shifted the weight of the load of lumber or in some way threw the trailer truck off- balance. The rig tipped to its side and then the semi trailer truck overturned, landing across the southbound lanes of State Route 340.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

Local emergency personnel form Augusta County and the city of Waynesboro responded to the scene of the rollover truck accident. The truck driver, Mr. Morales, was able to climb out of the cab of his semi trailer and was apparently not injured when the truck flipped over on the highway.

Police shut down a section of the southbound lanes of State Route 340 as well as the entrance ramp to I-64 while highway crews worked to clear the debris and other material from the interstate. A large wrecker was brought to the site of the truck accident so crews could get the disabled semi trailer truck back upright and off the highway’s traffic lanes. The area would be closed for about three hours while the lanes were cleared.

Authorities conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident and also inspected the semi trailer truck for any equipment or mechanical defects. It is possible that the truck driver may have been driving too fast on the exit ramp at the time of the truck accident, however at this time authorities have not released their report.

At this point in the truck investigation, the truck driver, Mr. Morales, has been charged with Driving with Defective Equipment and Failure to Maintain Proper Control of the Vehicle.
