A semi truck went off the road while traveling on Ives Dairy Rd and crashed into a house in Ives Estates, FL on May 10, 2013, injuring the trucker and another motorist.

The accident happened on Friday evening, May 10, near Ives Dairy Road and Northeast 16th Avenue. Fire rescue crews arrived on the scene at around 7:30 p.m. and the mess has since been cleaned up.The home was boarded up and deemed uninhabitable.

A red Mercedes-Benz with extensive damage to the front is also part of the scene. FHP troopers said they are still not sure how the sedan was damaged or how the semi-truck lost control. “Right now the troopers are working to determine how, obviously for the scene and for the road, we’re going to determine how the tractor trailer ended up on the side of the house,” said FHP Sgt. Alvaro Feola.

Florida State Troopers said four people were injured in this crash, two of whom medics rushed to the hospital. It is unknown whether the two people who were hospitalized are residents of the house that was hit or whether one of them was the driver of the red Mercedes. Crews have since hoisted the semi-truck upright.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Saturday, May 4, at about 3 p.m when a semi truck traveling southbound on Interstate 95 was cut off by a pickup entering the highway at LPGA Boulevard and flipped on its side, slid through the median and guardrails and came to rest in the northbound lanes.

The Daytona Beach Journal reports:

The semi driver was identified as Alan Brandon, 53, of Boynton Beach, and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center with critical injuries, according to FHP.

The FHP said, the driver of the pickup that entered the highway in front of the truck, 35-year-old Dannie Motley of Haines City, was not injured. Charges are pending.

The 2006 Ford pickup was entering southbound I-95 from LPGA Boulevard about 3 p.m. and drove into the path of the semi that was hauling a tandem trailer, according to the FHP. The semi attempted to avoid the pickup and overturned in the southbound lanes before sliding through the guardrail and into the median, coming to a stop in the northbound lanes.

Daytona Beach Fire Department spokesman Lt. Larry Stoney said emergency crews from the city and Volusia County Fire Services worked to clear the crash scene, and a Volusia County Hazmat team was called in to manage a fuel leak from the semi. The truck was carrying paint and other supplies.

A big rig driver was killed when his semi truck overturned and crashed on the transition ramp between I-495 and the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) in Hopkinton, MA on April 8, 2013.

The accident occured on monday afternoon, April 8. The truck was on the ramp from the Pike westbound to Route 495 when it crashed.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Feliz Piedade of East Providence, R.I. Piedade was rushed to the hospital but he later died.

According to troopers, the accident happened just before 10 AM Wednesday morning. The driver of the semi truck was identified as Charles Coker who was driving the semi-truck from Wynnewood Refinery to a waste disposal site in Arkansas.

“We believe the driver fell asleep and ran off the road, overturned one and a half times and was pinned for approximately one hour,” said OHP Trooper Heath Davidson.

Davidson said Coker was in stable condition when the authorities found him. He was transported to Atoka County Medical Center.

The big rig was carrying a non-toxic primary sewage sludge, but Davidson said it’s still dangerous.

“Mild to severe is what I believe the book showed on it,” said Davidson. “Mild eye irritations but it is classified as hazardous.”

There was about 22 thousand pounds of the hazardous waste on the scene, and a few miles up the road is Watson Creek. Environmental crews worked all day to clean up the waste before the expected rainfall so the waste does not come in contact with the creek.

“We’re gonna try to contain it,” said Davidson. “It’s 22 thousand pounds, so it will take a while.”

Davidson said crews should be finished cleaning up the waste before the end of the day.

A semi truck crashed with a logging truck and a dump truck on State Route 8 in Marion Township, PA on April 9, 2013. The semi truck driver was seriously injured and was transported, unconscious, to a hospital in Youngstown, OH.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 9, on Route 8. The semi truck was driving south on Route 8 when a vehicle it was following made a left turn onto Station Rd. The semi truck driver failed to see that the vehicle was turning left and braked suddenly which caused the truck to jackknife. A northbound logging truck smacked into the cab of the jackknifed semi truck and then a dump truck that was following the semi ran into the back of the trailer.

A section of State Route 8 had to be closed for at least 8 hours while officials, rescue personnel and HazMat personnel cleared the area.

At the time of the accident the semi trailer was empty. The logging truck was hauling logs and the dump truck was carrying slag.

None of the slag spilled, but diesel fuel was leaking from the tractor trailer, so a HazMat team was called in to deal with the cleanup of hazardous material.

The big rig driver was seriously injured in the accident and was airlifted, unconscious, to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, OH about 50 miles west of the accident. He underwent surgery for bleeding on the brain. No other details were available as to his condition.

State Trooper First Class David Tipley was at the scene and said that although fault was not officially determined, it looked like the semi truck driver caused the accident. The Trooper did say that speed was not a factor.

The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on March 21, 2013 at the southbound I-75 Exit 275 (Florida State Highway 56). According to an article at the WSTP.com website the Postal truck hit a guard rail in a construction zone which caused it to partially jacknife. Following this, a southbound dump truck was not able to avoid hitting the big rig:

 The crash caused the tractor trailer to partially jackknife and collide with the center median. A dump truck driving behind the tractor trailer was unable to stop or avoid collision, and crashed into the tractor trailer’s rear.

The drivers of both trucks were injured in the accident and had to be taken to the hospital in Tampa, but their injuries were reported to be minor and non-life threatening.

Traffic was snarled for hours due to the flames and damage to the roadway. New asphalt was laid after the accident to restore at least one lane of soutbound traffic. Officials planned to lay additional southbound roadway, but they got at least one southbound lane of traffic restored by Thursday evening.

About 3 1/2 miles of southbound lanes were closed between Exit 279 and Exit 275. Traffic was being diverted between State Highway 54 and State Highway 56 to allow road crews to clear the wreckage and restore the road surface. The heat of the fire in combination with leaking diesel fuel melted the roadway.

The injured driver, identified as 41-year-old Christopher J. Fitzgerald, from Keizer, was transported by air ambulance to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He was using safety restraints.

According to Trooper Brent Olcheskey, the accident occurred on March 20, 2013 at about 4:32 p.m., when Fitzgerald driving a 2013 Volvo traveling westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 136, missed the entrance into a rest area, traveled through grass and gravel before going through a chain link fence. As the truck and trailer continued into the rest area without braking and knocking over several garbage cans, the truck crashed into the back of a semi-trailer parked against a curb.

The trucker who was lying in the sleeper area inside the truck in front of the struck trailer was tossed into a wall. He was identified as 60-year-old Gary S. Anderson Sr, from Salem. It was reported that he received minor injuries.

Oregon State Police (OSP) suspect that a medical problem may contributed to the accident, however, the incident remains under investigation at this time.

A truck driver was trapped and had to be extricated by rescue crews after his semi truck crashed on Ohio State Rte 3 in Montville Township, OH on March 13, 2013. The semi truck was pulling a tanker trailer that was loaded with liquid asphalt.

The Montville Police told the media that the trapped semi truck driver was alert and talking during the rescue and that just before 11 a.m., he was airlifted by Life Flight to MetroHelp Medical Hospital in Cleveland.

HAZMAT crews were called to the scene because of leaking asphalt that was pouring out of the semi truck.

Motorists were asked to avoid Route 3 between Good and Chippewa roads, however, the road was reopened around 6 p.m.

The Police determined the semi tanker driver hit the back of the hay truck after the hay truck driver turned onto Wooster Pike from Summerwood Drive. The impact pushed the hay truck off the right side of the road and caused the semi tanker to roll over.

The firefighters who rescued the semi truck driver were relieved that he made it out alive.

According to Medina Firefighter, Larry Walters, the truck was “buried in the ground a little bit.” Firefighter Walters went on to say, “We actually have earth inside the cab of the truck that we were trying to work around and the space that his leg was stuck in was not even big enough to slide your hand in.”

Rescuers had to use three hydraulic tools and “some brute force” to free the trapped trucker.

Officials said that the man was driving east just before 1 p.m. on New York Avenue near Linda Drive in Deland when the truck veered onto the north shoulder where it crashed into the trees and caught fire.

The man was identified as a 66-year-old driver from Zephyrhills and was pronounced dead at the scene. Florida Highway Patrol troopers did not immediately release his name pending notification of his next of kin.
