The semi tanker truck crashed into a guardrail and highway bridge flipping over on its side.

At around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning 28 year old Aaron Ruggles of Owen, WI was driving a semi tanker truck south on State Highway 13 in Marathon/Clark County, WI. The tank on the truck was filled with gallons of milk.

As the milk tanker truck traveled the highway near the town of Unity the truck driver suddenly lost control of his rig south of the juncture with Salter Road. The semi tanker truck crashed into a guardrail and highway bridge and then flipped over on its side. The impact broke open a section of the cargo tank as well as one of the fuel tanks. The truck burst into flames as milk and diesel fuel spilled out onto the highway.

According to an officer with the State Patrol the preliminary findings point to the truck driver falling asleep while driving. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash and rollover.

The driver, Mr. Ruggles, was momentarily trapped in the cab of the tanker after the truck accident. He was able to crawl out of the burning cab and escaped serious injuries. Emergency personnel responding to the truck accident scene treated the truck driver’s head injuries and then transported him to Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. According to authorities the truck driver was not wearing his seatbelt.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

The Fire and Rescue team from Colby/Abbotsford responded to the truck accident site and battled the flames which engulfed the cab of the tanker. Once the truck fire was extinguished they spread an absorbent product on top of the remaining spilled diesel fuel. Mulch was brought to the area and spread on the fuel in order to keep it from getting into nearby Little Eau Pleine Creek.

A second milk tanker was brought to the scene of the truck accident and the milk in the disabled truck was transferred into the new tanker. Once empty the wrecked tanker truck was towed off the highway.

A section of Highway 13 was closed down after the truck accident while the various crews worked. The lanes would stay closed for almost seven hours reopening at around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

Several departments were at the scene to investigate and reconstruct the truck accident including Wisconsin State Patrol and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. According to an officer with the State Patrol the preliminary findings point to the truck driver falling asleep while driving. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash and rollover.

No charges have been made at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

At around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning 52 year old Jose Villalobos of Houston, Texas was driving a semi trailer truck south on Wisconsin State Highway 57 near Green Bay in Brown County, WI. The truck driver was hauling a load of hay on the back of his trailer.

At the same time 46 year old Martin Bierhals of Pulaski, WI was driving a pickup truck in the same area of southbound Highway 57. Mr. Bierhals had two passengers in his pickup truck, 29 year old Shaun Brott of Green Bay and 19 year old Jeremy Brott of Pulaski. The three men were driving home from their jobs at a local canning facility.

A few minutes later, at approximately 2:40 a.m. Monday, Mr. Bierhals plowed into the back section of the semi trailer truck for unknown reasons.

Brown County Sheriff deputies responded to the scene of the trailer truck accident along with local emergency personnel. One of the passengers in the pickup, Shaun Brott, suffered fatal injuries in the rear-end collision and died at the scene. The other passenger, Jeremy Brott, was treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital with serious and possibly life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up, Mr. Bierhals, sustained moderate injuries in the collision and was also treated and taken to a local hospital.

Mr. Villalobos, the driver of the semi trailer truck was not injured in the truck accident.

At this time they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal truck accident.

No charges or citations have been made at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

At about 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning an unidentified 41 year old truck driver was driving a milk tanker truck south on Highway 11 in Green County, WI. The milk tanker had the logo of J.J. Felicijan on its side, a freight long distance trucking company based in Poynette, WI. The tanker was carrying about 6,000 gallons of milk.

While the tanker truck was moving through the town of Brodhead, the driver suddenly lost control of the 18 wheeler at the intersection of Highway 11 and Ninth Street for unknown reasons. The tanker went off the highway and crashed into a tree at the side of the road before finally coming to a rest in the backyard of a local family, just a few inches from two small pools.

The impact of the truck accident caused heavy damage to the tanker.

Brodhead police, Green County Sheriff deputies and emergency personnel responded to the site of the early morning truck accident. The truck driver was treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported by ambulance to Monroe Hospital in nearby Monroe. The extent of his injuries are unknown but are believed to be non life threatening.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.

The impact of the truck accident caused heavy damage to the tanker. According to police the semi truck lost between 3,000 to 4,000 gallons of milk and about 100 gallons of diesel fuel. The spill area was about the size of a city block.

An environmental spill recovery crew based out of Loves Park, IL was brought to the site of the truck accident and worked most of Saturday to clean up the spilled fuel and milk, working alongside members of the Albany Fire Department’s Haz-Mat team, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and Green County Emergency Management office.

Reportedly the teams were able to contain the spills and they did not enter the Brodhead’s water system.

Other crews worked to remove the wreckage of the severely damaged tanker truck from the family’s backyard.

Brodhead police and Wisconsin State Patrol officers conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident but have not yet released what they believe caused the crashed.

No charges have been brought at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

Shortly before 2:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon a semi trailer truck was going south on Interstate 94, hauling a load of overseas cargo. Locally I-94 is also known as Highway 41. According to the police, as the 18 wheeler traveled through Racine County between Highways G and K near Caledonia, WI the truck driver apparently lost control of the rig and veered onto the right shoulder of the interstate. The driver then tried to pull the semi truck back onto the highway.

Authorities believe the truck driver may have overcorrected and the force threw the semi trailer truck off balance and it tipped over on its side. After rolling over the 18 wheeler truck slammed into the construction zone median wall, pushing the dividing structure into one of the northbound lanes on I-94. This set off a chain reaction as a box truck traveling north on the interstate slammed into the median wall and a passenger car also hit the concrete structure.

A semi tanker truck traveling in the north lane was initially thought to be part of the multi-vehicle collision, but it was later determined that it was not involved.

When the semi trailer truck rolled over the cargo container separated and fell into the northbound lanes of I-94. The truck trailer spilled a portion of its cargo, leaving debris and other items strewn across the roadway. The box truck was reported to be carrying bakery items and loaves of bread also fell out onto the interstate. According to local fire officials, diesel fuel spilled from the overturned semi trailer truck.

Emergency workers from the Caledonia Fire Department responded to the two truck accident and treated the victims at the scene. The driver of the semi trailer truck suffered a bruised lung and other serious but not life threatening injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Wauwatosa, WI. The driver of the bread truck was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, treated for minor injuries and released. A third person suffered a diabetic incident on the interstate and was treated at the scene. It is not known if the person was part of the truck accident or a person stuck in the traffic delay.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the truck accident scene and shut down several traffic lanes so rescue workers and highway crews could perform their jobs. A Haz-Mat team cleaned up the spilled diesel fuel. A spokesperson with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said that the construction zone barrier wall was hit hard by the semi trailer truck and would have to be repaired or replaced.

Wisconsin State Patrol rerouted and diverted traffic around the site of the truck accident. Traffic was backed up for miles with some sources reporting the delays stretching from the border between Racine and Kenosha Counties all the way to Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee.

The interstate lanes were closed for over six hours and traffic delays would last throughout the entire commuter rush Thursday. All travel lanes on I-94 were finally reopened at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Officials investigating the truck accident do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the multi vehicle collision. As of Friday no charges had been brought against the driver of the semi truck that set off the chain reaction collision, but they are expected pending the conclusion of the truck accident investigation.

The semi truck accident happened at the Sparta High School football field on the corner of Rusk Avenue and Franklin Street in Sparta.

According to police, the semi truck was travelling southbound on Rusk Ave. when it crashed nearly head-on into a passenger car in the northbound lane. The big rig jumped a curb, then hit the power pole then crashed through the chain link fence that surrounds the track, then came to a stop on the school’s track.

Police say the driver of the big rig, George Hackler, 59 years old from Knoxville, Tennessee lost control because of a medical condition. The driver of the passenger car, Steven Tessman, 49 years old from West Salem, WI was injured in the accident with the 18 wheeler.

Both Hackler and Tessman were taken to a local hospital. Tessman was treated and released. Hackler received treatment for his medical condition.

The accident occurred about 83 miles north of Madison, WI when the tractor trailer rig veered off the highway and ran into the power pole and smashed into the Barnes Family Foods grocery store in New Lisbon.
