The 18 wheeler was completely destroyed by the fire after the truck accident and most of the cargo was lost, with a few blocks of cheese strewn around the accident site.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, March 29, 58 year old Glen L. Boyer of Le Mars, Iowa was driving a semi trailer truck loaded with bricks of cheese east on Interstate 90.

As Mr. Boyer drove on the interstate in the area near Wyattville he apparently lost control of his 18 wheeler truck. The cheese truck crossed the interstate’s center median and across both westbound lanes of traffic before crashing into the Winona County Road 25 Bridge. The trailer truck then slid down an embankment, exploded and erupted into flames. People in the area reported hearing the explosions and seeing black plumes of smoke rising from the burning trailer truck.

There was one vehicle traveling west on I-90 when the tractor truck crossed the four lanes of traffic and hit the bridge. The unidentified female driver reportedly came within a few feet of being hit by the semi.

The truck driver was able to get out of the cab of the truck before the fire engulfed the rig. Local emergency personnel treated him at the scene and then Mr. Boyer was medically airlifted to Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin, about 36 miles away. His injuries are reportedly minor and not life threatening.

Minnesota State Patrol shut down both lanes of westbound I-90 while highway crews worked to clear out the burnt wreckage of the truck accident. Officers opened up one westbound lane for traffic shortly before 8:00 a.m. Monday morning. All lanes were reopened by 10:00 a.m.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials were also at the scene of the truck accident. They inspected the bridge that the driver crashed into to check if it was safe for traffic. The MDOT officials determined that the semi truck hit the corner of the Winona County Road 25 Bridge and did not cause serious damage to the structure. State highway crews will have to repair some of the rails of the bridge, and that work will be done in the next few weeks. An MDOT official declared the bridge was safe to travel over for now.

Jackson County Fire District firefighters were quickly at the site of the truck accident and used tools to extricate the crash victims.

Shortly after 4:45 a.m. Friday morning 49 year old Kenneth W. Moss of Grants Pass, OR was driving a semi tractor truck south on Interstate 5. The truck driver was working for the Erv Bettendorf Trucking Company, based in White City, OR.

Mr. Moss was traveling in the right lane of the highway hauling two trailers filled with wood chips and going up a hill at a slow rate of speed, approximately 20 MPH. As the 18 wheeler drove through the area of the interstate near mile marker 39 he was approached from the rear by a 1996 Chevrolet van driven by 32 year old Christian Rodriguez of Santa Rosa, California. There were two other passengers in the van. Both vehicles were in the right lane of the interstate.

Mr. Rodriguez came up on the semi truck at a fast rate of speed, and for unknown reasons failed to move into the left lane of the interstate. The Chevy van smashed into the rear end of the back trailer of the semi tractor truck. The impact of the rear end collision deployed the air bags in the van and destroyed the front section of the vehicle.

Jackson County Fire District firefighters were quickly at the site of the truck accident and used tools to extricate the crash victims. The van driver, Mr. Rodriguez, suffered fatal injuries in the rear end collision and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The front seat passenger has been identified as the driver’s wife, 36 year old Deborah Solis. She sustained critical injuries in the truck accident and was stabilized at the site and then airlifted by Mercy Flights ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, OR. The passenger in the rear seat, 27 year old Immer E. Castillo-Garcia, was also seriously injured in the rear end truck accident. He was treated and then flown to Rogue Valley Hospital by Mercy Flights.

According to Oregon State Police who responded to the truck accident, the van driver and front seat passenger were wearing their seatbelts, but they were unsure if the passenger in the rear was wearing his safety restraints. The semi truck driver, Mr. Moss, was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the rear end collision.

They shut down the highway lanes but were allowing vehicles to move through the accident section using the interstate’s left shoulder. Officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation were also at the scene.

Authorities have not determined why the van driver did not move into the left lane to avoid rear ending the slower moving trailer truck. One theory is that the driver of the van may have been fatigued or had fallen asleep at the time of the truck accident.

The crash occurred when the big rig, traveling northbound on I-95, veered off the shoulder, then scraped along the guard rail for about 400 feet. The guard rail ripped open the 18 wheeler’s fuel tank spilling diesel fuel onto the drivers side of the tractor trailer. The diesel fuel ignitied and engulfed the semi truck in flames then careened into a bridge abutment at the overpass.

Stonington is located in the southeast corner of Connecticut, about 60 miles from New Haven, about 65 miles from Hartford, and about 79 miles from Bridgeport.

All local lanes on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway were closed for approximately two hours this morning after a semi truck jackknifed and spilled fuel on the roadway.

Investigators closed all northbound local lanes for about two hours, state police said. Express lanes were not closed.

All lanes were reopened as of 7 a.m.

State Police reports that no one was injured.

The cause of the crash is not yet known, but the weather is blamed for two earlier jackknifed semis on the Dan Ryan near 63rd Street. One inbound and one outbound semi jackknifed about 2:30 a.m., but state police said the crashes do not appear related.

Houston Truck Accident SUV & Cargo Truck

According to Alexander Supgul from MyFox Houston – A female driver lost control of her sport utility vehicle, crashing into an 18-wheeler cargo truck in west Houston and survived the vehicle becoming lodged beneath the truck.

The accident took place on August 14th at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 10, the Katy Freeway westbound, near the Park Ten Boulevard exit.

Officers say the driver likely fell asleep because she was not intoxicated and told police that she did not remember what took place.

The driver was traveling at a higher rate of speed than the cargo truck and made such a hard impact with the SUV that it became lodged under the Federal Express truck, according to investigators.

The truck dragged the SUV for a short distance before the truck driver was able to stop it in the shoulder lane.

The SUV driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries but investigators say she avoided more serious injuries because the airbags in the SUV deployed. The driver of the cargo truck was not hurt.
