The big rig driver drove off the right side of the road and then over-corrected to the left and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. The 18 wheeler collided with a pickup truck and hit the boat and the trailer that it was towing.

The tractor trailer continued off the left side of the road an partly over an embankment and stopped just short of the tracks. Train traffic on the Union Pacific tracks was halted for a period of time, but then re-opened in limited use.

Scene following a motorcycle accident with a semi truck in Fenton, MO on I-44.

According to St Louis County Police, the accident occurred on Thursday, July 28, at about 12:15 a.m. when the motorcyclist hit something on the pavement near Bowles Avenue, then lost control and struck a passing tractor trailer truck.

Two Platte City fire trucks collide injuring 5 volunteer firefighters.

The accident occured on Monday, May 9, about 4:10 a.m. when the firefighters were responding to a residential electrical fire on the deck of a house.

KansasCity.com reports:

By Monday afternoon, two of the Central Platte Fire Protection District firefighters had been released from the hospital, according to the Platte County sheriff’s office. They were identified as Kevin Burge and Al Ryan.

The three others — Kent Pine, Carl Foreman and Chief Larry Bigus — remained hospitalized. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, said Capt. Erik Holland with the sheriff’s office.

In the darkness, the first truck missed the house’s driveway. The truck turned around and was headed back toward the house when it collided with the other truck in the 15000 block of Missouri HH, about two miles east of Platte City, Holland said.

Both trucks were severely damaged. The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department.

Officials believe that Watts was trying to pass a tractor trailer truck on the shoulder of eastbound I-70 at around 2:45 pm Tuesday, and crashed into a guard rail in the process.

Watts was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash closed the highway during the afternoon rush hour near the express lanes of I-70 at Union Boulevard for several hours.

There were no other injuries reported at the time of the incident.

While the accident remains under investigation, the truck driver is not expected to be charged.

Early Tuesday morning an unidentified truck driver was driving a semi trailer west on Interstate 270, traveling toward the city of St. Louis, St Louis County, MO. It is believed the semi had a cargo of automotive parts but the destination of the tractor trailer at the time of the truck accident is not known.

The semi trailer was just east of the border between Missouri and Illinois and crossing the Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi River when the truck accident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to witnesses the tractor trailer came up upon a man pushing a car on the bridge in the westbound lanes of the interstate. The witnesses said that the car did not appear to have its lights on and it is likely the semi driver did not see the man in the predawn darkness until the last moment.

The truck driver pulled the 18 wheeler to the left to avoid the man however he still hit part of the car. The semi trailer then crashed over the median of the highway into the eastbound lanes and exploded into flames. An eastbound semi driver saw the truck accident and stopped his rig and rushed to the burning tractor trailer. The second driver used a handheld fire extinguisher and was able to get the first truck driver out of the fiery cab section and helped him to safety.

The man pushing the stalled car received fatal injuries in the truck accident and authorities believe he probably died instantly upon impact. The driver of the burning truck was not hurt and refused treatment from paramedics.

Emergency personnel from several local departments responded to the fiery crash site. Police shut down traffic on the bridge in both directions so emergency vehicles could have better access. Drivers who were on the Chain of Rocks Bridge at the time of the truck accident were stuck on the span and forced to wait in their vehicles. There is no shoulder on the bridge so officials had limited room to move traffic around the crash site. Eventually police began to divert eastbound traffic to one of the westbound lanes however some drivers were told they might be stuck for four or six hours.

Firefighters battled the flames on the burning semi trailer and finally extinguished the truck fire. There were some delays as fire trucks had to go off the bridge to fill their tanks with water and then bring it back to the truck accident site. The tractor trailer was destroyed in the fiery crash and the burnt wreckage would be towed off the bridge later on Tuesday. All lanes were reopened late Tuesday afternoon.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Departments Accident Reconstruction squad investigated the deadly collision. There is little doubt that the truck accident was set off by the man pushing the disabled car on the bridge. A police spokesperson confirmed that the first 911 call regarding the man on the bridge misidentified the highway as I-70 and officers went to the wrong interstate. There was about a 10 minute delay before a second 911 call alerted officials to I-270 and the Chain of Rocks Bridge.

Unfortunately by the time officers arrived at the truck accident the man had already been struck and killed and the tractor trailer was in flames.

No charges have been brought at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.

The multi truck accident left the Dodge pickup sandwiched between the 18 wheeler and the delivery truck, the right passenger side of the pickup completely caved in by the impact.

The truck accident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the intersection of the Kansas Expressway/Route 13 and Division Street. A 2002 Dodge pickup truck driven by 42 year old Edwin Kropf was heading east on division St., his 42 year old twin brother Edward was the passenger in the pickup. The brothers were Amish-Mennonite farmers from the Everton, MO area. 

As Mr. Kropf reached the intersection of the Kansas Expressway/Route 13, he apparently ignored his red-light signal and entered the intersection directly in the path of northbound traffic.

A 2007 Volvo tractor trailer truck traveling north on Kansas Expressway/Route 13 slammed into the passenger side of the Dodge pickup. The force of the truck accident then pushed the pickup truck into another tractor trailer which was carrying a load of windows.

According to a witness of the truck accident, the driver of the Volvo tractor trailer truck, 36 year old Christopher M. Doyle of Orlando, Florida, attempted to avoid hitting the pickup truck but there was not enough space or time to stop or maneuver out of the way. The semi truck also clipped a westbound vehicle sitting at a red-light at the intersection.

The multi truck accident left the Dodge pickup sandwiched between the 18 wheeler and the delivery truck, the right passenger side of the pickup completely caved in by the impact.

Springfield emergency personnel responded to the truck accident scene and worked to get the Kropf brothers out of the wrecked Dodge pickup. The passenger, Edward Kropf suffered fatal injuries and died upon impact.

His brother, driver Edwin Kropf was treated and stabilized at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. His injuries were serious but he reportedly was awake and speaking with family Friday evening.

The driver of the Volvo tractor trailer, Christopher Dodd, was not injured in the truck accident. There was damage to his truck, which is owned by Windy Hill Foliage, of Marshfield, Wisconsin. The driver of the window delivery truck and the clipped vehicle were also not injured in the multi truck collision.

The multi truck accident took out several traffic lights at the intersection of Division and Kansas Expressway, and sent debris flying into the air. The collision also damaged the gas tanks on the trucks and diesel fuel was spilled onto Division St.

Springfield officials closed down the area around the truck accident, bringing local traffic to a standstill. The southbound lanes of the Kansas expressway were reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

The remaining lanes would open back up later Friday, once crews had finished cleaning up the spill diesel fuel and removing the truck accident wreckage from the scene.

No charges have been made at this time. The truck accident remains under investigation.

The semi-trailer, which was carrying milk, careened down a 40-foot embankment after a crash on on Interstate 29 near Dearborn, Mo. The driver was reportedly not injured.

The truck accident happened at about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, as 40 year old John D. Romines of Sabetha, Kansas was driving his 2007 Kenworth tanker truck southbound on Interstate 29. As he neared the area by mile marker 31.6 Mr. Romines drove onto the shoulder of the interstate, ramming into a parked 2004 Peterbilt semi truck…

Some reports indicated that there was debris in the interstate which may have caused Mr. Romines to go onto the shoulder and hit the parked truck.

After hitting the parked 18 wheeler, Mr. Romines drove along the side of the Peterbilt truck and then ran off the highway. Romines tanker truck then went through a guardrail and plunged down the embankment. The tanker truck overturned when it reached the bottom, ejecting Mr. Romines from the truck. Authorities confirmed that Mr. Romines was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

The tanker truck, which had been carrying milk, came to a stop in a creek bed, about 50 feet from the highway.

Emergency personnel arrived at the truck accident scene. They treated and stabilized Mr. Romines and then transported him to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO, about 21 miles away. His injuries are moderate and not considered life threatening.

The driver of the parked Peterbilt truck, 64 year old Lawrence J. Haberman of Lesterville, South Dakota was not injured in the truck accident. Mr. Haberman said he felt a jolt, but didn’t realize the extent of the accident until another truck driver stopped to check on his condition.

When the parked Peterbilt was hit by the milk tanker truck it spilled its load of soda all over the interstate.

Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the truck accident scene and closed down all lanes of the interstate in the truck accident area. There were reportedly one or two accidents in the area after the truck collision, but no serious injuries reported at this time.

Crews were brought in to clear the soda and other debris from the highway. A heavy duty tow truck was also going to be brought in to lift the milk tanker truck up the embankment and off the interstate.

Troopers first opened one lane of traffic in each direction, and finally opened all lanes once the debris and wreckage was cleared out.

Missouri train and truck accident ends in tragedy. One Dies; children injured.

Missouri State Highway Patrol says Kristy Willis, 33, was driving 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck with three passengers inside.

Kelsey Turner, 8, sat in the front seat. Two other kids, Tiffany Bowden, 15, and her brother Carl, 16, sat in the truck’s bed.

The Highway Patrol says the car and train collided when the pick-up tried to cross the railroad tracks along Highway 60.

Tim Bowden, the father of the two kids who were in the pick-up bed, says Tiffany saw Willis reach across the front seat to help Turner, perhaps with her seat belt.

Bowden says Tiffany and Carl saw the train coming and jumped out of the pick-up bed just in time. They’re doing okay.

But Highway Patrol says, 8 year old Kelsey who was in the front seat, suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Troopers also said that Willis, who was driving, died in the crash. Accident reports show neither Willis nor Turner were wearing seat belts.

Bowden says he’s very shaken by what happened.

“It’s a tragedy,” he says. “From what my daughter told me, they pulled up on the tracks and nobody had even seen the train. The train didn’t even blow a whistle, didn’t blow a horn or nothing.”

Bowden says his kids had just gotten off the school bus, and Willis, their neighbor, was giving them a ride home from the bus stop.

Reports show that the train driver Edward Cleeton, 50, was not injured and was driven from the scene.

Billows of smoke caused by the acid arose from the trailer, creating a chemical cloud. Hazmat crews were called to the scene and are currently working on containing the spill and cleaning up the area.

The Isle of Capri casino which is nearby did not evacuated, but those inside were asked to take shelter.

Kansas City Fire Department spokesman Joe Vitale said that fire crews have plugged one of two holes in the tank holding the acid. Vitale said a cleanup crew will be called to finish the cleanup.

The driver of the truck was pulled from the cab and transported to an area hospital, but was alert and responsive.

Vitale said they spoke to the driver by phone as he was transported to the hospital to determine how much he was carrying and other information about his load.

Kansas City Police and the Missouri Highway Patrol were unsure of how soon the bridge would be reopened.

Lincoln County, MO — An accident involving a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon in Lincoln County left the driver of the truck with moderate injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 5 p.m. on Route V, west of Windy Hill Road. A 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 42-year-old Wayne Leroy of Atmore, Ala., was westbound on Route V when it traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.

Leroy, who was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital West by Lincoln County Ambulance.
