SUFFOLK, VA – A semi truck driver was injured after running off the road and overturning in Suffolk, VA on February 3, 2014. The crash knocked over a power pole cutting power to the local area.
Suffolk is an independent city in the state of Virginia located in the southeastern part of the state. It is not part of any county.
The accident occurred at about 8:58 a.m. on February 3, 2014 in the 4900 block of U.S. Highway 460 (Pruden Blvd) just west of Gardner Lane. The tractor trailer was traveling east on U.S. 460 when it tipped over in a field on the right side of the road.
The crash caused the power to be cut in the surrounding area. The Dominion Virginia Power company was dispatched to the scene to make repairs and restore power.
Fire & Rescue crews out of Suffolk responded to the accident. The big rig driver was injured in the crash and was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital about 5 miles southeast of the accident site on Godwin Blvd.
There were no hazardous materials spilled and no other vehicles involved in the crash.
The cause of the accident is not known but is currently under investigation.
