PORTLAND, OR – A semi truck that was pulling a mobile home overturned during high winds on the I-205 bridge over the Columbia River in Portland, OR on January 23, 2014.
Portland is located in Multnomah County, Oregon in the northwestern part of the state on the Washington state border about 9.1 miles south of Vancouver, WA.
The trailer of the 18 wheeler came to rest leaning against the southbound concrete barrier on the right lane after tipping over in a gust of wind.
The accident occurred around noon on January 23, 2014.
Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene. According to officials, there were no injuries in the accident.
A wrecker with a crane was used to secure the rig so it wouldn’t fall over into the river. Southbound traffic was jammed while the rescue operations were underway. Authorities informed motorists to expect delays until the truck was cleared from the bridge.
The big rig was removed from the bridge around 1:00 p.m. and traffic was re-opened.
Officials closed the bridge to semi trucks with oversized loads around 12:30 p.m. but was re-opened shortly after.
Water traffic was also shut down in the Columbia River below the bridge until the truck was removed from the bridge and rescue operations were finished.
