Houston Truck Accident Lawyer John O’Quinn Killed In SUV Crash – Video

HOUSTON, TX – A prominent Houston truck accident attorney, John O’Quinn, was killed this morning around 8:00 am, Oct 29, 2009 when his SUV struck a tree along the Allen Parkway in Houston, TX. There was also a second person in the SUV at the time who was also killed. It is not clear whether O’Quinn was the driver or not.

Apparently, the SUV, a Chevy Suburban, was travelling westbound in the 2000 block of the Allen Parkway when it skidded out of control and crashed. The SUV jumped two curbs before crashing head-on into a tree on the service road to the westbound Allen Parkway.

Houston Police are still investigating the accident. Police Lt. L.J. Satterwhite stated that the rain-slicked roadway and possibly speed may have had something to do with it, but they are not sure at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

O’Quinn made his fortune largely in personal injury cases. He was a prominent truck accident attorney in Houston, Texas. In the early 1990s he was successful in breast implant cases. O’Quinn was also a local philantrhopist in Houston, donating money to many projects including the Houston Council on Alcohol and Drugs and the Harris County Children’s Assessment Center. He also gave money to some Texas Medical Center institutions, among them being St. Luke’s Hospital, which has a tower bearing his name.

O’Quinn was also a big contributor to Democratic Party candidates. He donated more than $200,000 to Democratic candidates last year in addition to giving $4,800 to the U.S. Senate campaign of Houston Mayor Bill White. He was also the single biggest donor to Democratic nominee Chris Bell in the 2006 governor’s race, giving Bell $2.5 million in that campaign. That was the unsuccessful campaign against Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
