Semi Truck Hits Pickup and Stops Train Traffic in Jefferson City, MO

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – After crashing into a pickup truck that was towing a boat and a trailer, a semi truck ran off the road and stopped just short of the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Jefferson City, MO.

Jefferson City is located in Cole County, Missouri in the central part of the state about 31 miles southeast of Columbia, 113 miles west of Chesterfield and about 101 miles southwest of O’Fallon.

The accident happened on October 6, 2011 where Algoa Road runs parallel with the tracks in Jefferson City. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident and there were no hazardous materials or fire involved.

The big rig driver drove off the right side of the road and then over-corrected to the left and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. The 18 wheeler collided with a pickup truck and hit the boat and the trailer that it was towing.

The tractor trailer continued off the left side of the road an partly over an embankment and stopped just short of the tracks. Train traffic on the Union Pacific tracks was halted for a period of time, but then re-opened in limited use.

Algoa Road was also shut down for several hours while the accident scene was cleared.
