Man Dies in Head-On Truck Collision on New York Highway
CLAVERACK, NY – A man died from injuries he suffered in a head-on collision with a flatbed truck Thursday morning. The truck accident happened on Route 9H/23 near the town of Claverack, New York, in Columbia County. The area is in the far east-central section of the state, 35 miles south of Albany, NY and 119 miles north of New York City.
At approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning, 24 year old Daniel Edmonson of Wappingers Falls, NY was traveling north on Route 9H/23. A winter storm had moved through the area overnight and the roads were slick and snow covered.
As Mr. Edmonson drove through the town of Claverack he apparently lost control of his car near the intersection of Route 27. Edmonson crossed over the center dividing line on the highway and into the path of a southbound 18 wheeler, driven by 45 year old Norman Morrison, Jr. of Hudson, NY.

The truck driver was unable to maneuver to avoid the collision and the car crashed head-on into the flatbed tractor trailer.
New York State Police received a call about the truck accident at around 8:30 a.m. according to a trooper at the State Police Livingston barracks. First responders, including Claverack firefighters and the Greenport Rescue Squad, quickly arrived at the truck accident scene.
The car driver, Mr. Edmonson, had suffered fatal injuries in the truck accident and his car was severely damaged. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County Coroner, Angelo Nero.

The truck driver, Mr. Morrison Jr., was removed from the cab of his flatbed truck and stabilized. He was then transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, a few miles away. Reports indicated that he was being treated for injuries to his back, ribs, and neck.
NY State Police troopers at the truck accident scene closed a section of Route 9H/23 while the emergency teams worked and highway department crews cleared the debris from the highway. The highway section was closed for most of the morning, reopening after approximately three hours.

The weather and road conditions are considered to be factors in the accident, as the highway surface was slick at the time of the truck collision.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was on the scene to investigate the truck accident scene. The state Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit was also assisting in the accident investigation. The units will release more information as it becomes available.
No charges or citations have been made yet, and the truck accident remains under investigation.
